Free One-Day Winter Adventures at Audubon’s Rowe Sanctuary

Rowe hosts two family-friendly events on Saturday, January 4

Gibbon, NE (December 23, 2019) – Families are invited to two free events hosted at the Iain Nicolson Audubon Center at Rowe Sanctuary on Saturday, January 4, 2020. The events will have trail explorations, family-friendly indoor activities, and free hot chocolate for all participants.

The first program is the Christmas Bird Count 4 Kids from 10 am to 12 pm focusing on teaching children and their families how to identify and count birds for the annual Christmas Bird Count community science program. Participants will learn to use binoculars and field guides before joining staff on a bird walk. After the hike, participants can help enter the data into eBird, a mobile app that records bird sightings.

The second program is the Rowe Adventures: Winter Walkabout from 1 to 4 pm where people of all ages can explore the trails along the Platte River to discover how animals and insects adapt to the colder months. Participants are encouraged to dress in layers for this event.

Beka Yates, Education Manager at Audubon’s Rowe Sanctuary, said the events are “to encourage folks to get outside and enjoy nature before the kids go back to school.”

Participants can attend one or both programs and are encouraged to bring a picnic for in-between events. For more information, visit rowe.audubon.org/events or call (308) 468-5282.
